Daddy, Look at Me

“Daddy, look at me.” I would turn my feet, paddling as quickly as I could making my tricycle move along the sidewalk. I turned to see if he saw how well that I did only to find his eyes looking at something “more important.” “Daddy, look at me.” I skillfully played my new song on the piano by heart.” I turned and smiled, but he had already moved toward another room. “Daddy, look at me.” I finally could keep my bicycle up as I paddled across the yard, but he had to hurry away. The longing for “Daddy to see” never left. I found myself struggling to add up; to matter. Surely, if I could be great, doing better than the rest, then somehow Daddy would look at me. I cooked; I cleaned; I ironed; I made straight A’s all through school; I was cheerleader; I was in the honor society; I was even homecoming queen, … “Daddy, are you looking at me?”

I often was awakened in the still of the night, “Charlotte, Charlotte…” I knew that Jesus had once again visited me. I lay in His Presence. The tears flowed down the sides of my face soaking my temples with tears running through my hair soaking the pillow beneath my head. I found myself begging Him, Jesus, please don’t leave me. Jesus,…” His heavy anointing had lifted as I lay somehow comforted. Time and time again, my Lord visited me in the night. Oh, the time of crawling onto the floor, leaning my head against the wall. “Jesus, will you hold me?” I pretended to hear His heart beat as I lay so close to Him. Soon, His holy anointing covered me once again with comfort and with peace.

Sometimes, I still feel myself longing for my Lord’s comfort and embrace. “Jesus, are you looking? …Of course, You see me. "The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous and his ears are open unto their cry’” (Ps. 34:15.)

You may feel that no one sees you. “I am alone, my heart is broken, who really cares…” The Lord says to you, “…I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not. [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! Assuredly not!]” (Heb. 13:5). “Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed; for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest” (Joshua 1:9). “Thou shalt also be a crown of glory in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God. Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken…” (Is. 62:3&4). “If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me” Ps. 139:9-10). Your Abba Father—Daddy is looking at you and me; there is nothing more important!
