Faith Speaks the Answer

A little girl lies at the point of death. Her mother and father watch her health slowly deteriorate. How can this be? This little girl is their only child, and is only twelve years of age. Her father is Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue (Mk. 5:22). He loves God and serves Him. Why was this happening to their family?

Word quickly travels that Jesus has just arrived by boat. Jairus had heard about Jesus and His power to heal and deliver. This must be the promised Messiah. He saw the crowd already gathered around the Lord, but He runs with all of his might and falls at the Lord’s feet crying, “My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.” Please notice what the faith of Jairus says. “Jesus if you will come to my daughter, lay your hands on her, she will be healed and live.” Notice in verse 24 that Jesus did not rebuke Jairus for his confession but rather went with him. Jesus said in Mark 11:23&24, “…believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore, I say unto you, What things soever ye desire when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” Again, Jesus said, “If ye abide in me, (born again and continue in His Word and obedience) and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” Is our faith speaking or our doubt and unbelief speaking? Charlotte, I speak it like I see it. If you are speaking the problem, you will keep the problem. We are to speak what we desire; declaring God’s promise (His Word) concerning it.

Jairus is practically running to get to his daughter, occasionally turning to make sure that Jesus is coming. What is this? Jesus stops in His tracks, looks into the crowd, and says, “Who touched my clothes?” Jesus had turned to look at a woman trembling as she approached them. She begins to share what seemed “a forever” story about her issue of blood for twelve years and her confession, “If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.” She had touched the hem of Jesus’ garment and was healed.

Someone comes running through the crowd crying to Jairus, “Thy daughter is dead, why troublest thou the Master any further?” Those words pierced the heart of Jairus. Oh, if the woman had not interfered, just maybe Jesus could have saved his little girl. Jesus quickly spoke to Jairus, “Be not afraid, only believe.” How do you believe when your dream just died? You hold fast to the Words of Jesus. They continue their journey and in the distance the noise of wailing and groaning is going on over the death of Jairus’ daughter. Jesus speaks not the circumstance of death but “the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.” He commands the little girl to “arise” and she does.
