The Watchmen Anointing

1 Timothy 2:1-4 says, “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” Notice that it is the will of our God that all men be saved and to know Truth (the Word). “Saved” is to be born again, but it is also walking in the salvation that was provided through Jesus. Salvation includes healing, wholeness, peace, provision, etc. The prayers that we see in this verse will allow the one who prays to enjoy “a quiet and peaceable life.”

Intercession means to strike upon—to assail anyone with petitions; meeting with God on the behalf of another with petitions and/or appeals. I would say that every one of us as Christians have approached our Father God in Jesus’ name making requests for another. I want to focus this teaching on a part of intercession called the “Watchmen Anointing”. Paga (intercession) is prayer-building walls or boundaries of protection. There is an anointing in intercession that can build spiritual walls around individuals or around situations that minister our God’s protection against the attacks of our enemies; demonic spirits. We read in 1 Peter 5:8&9, “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert (watching). Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.” Now notice 2 Corinthians 2:11 says, “In order that no advantage be taken of us by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his schemes.” “Ignorant” means without knowledge or understanding of; also to ignore. “Schemes” mean plans, thoughts of the mind; strategies and deceits. In other words, “Don’t be without understanding of the way your enemy thinks and operates—of his plans, plots, schemes, and devices.” Therefore, if God suggests we are not to be ignorant of Satan’s schemes, He must be willing to reveal them to us. Also, if we are unaware of Satan’s schemes or if we know about them and do not take authority, Satan will take “advantage” of us or for those we have been called to intercede for. “Advantage” means to have or hold the greater portion; the greater part; have or hold; to overreach; to make a gain. We understand that in a boxing match the one who is able to overreach his opponent has the “advantage”. With all of these meanings, we may read this verse as, “To the degree that we are ignorant of the way our adversary thinks and operates—of his plans, plots, schemes, and devices—to that degree he will gain on us, prey on us, defraud us of what is our and have or hold the greater portion” (2 Cor. 2:11).

Based upon our study above, we can draw four conclusions:

1. Protection from the attacks of our enemy—even for believers—is not automatic.

2. God’s plan is to warn or alert us to Satan’s tactics.

3. We must be alert—remain watchful—or we won’t pick up on God’s attempts to warn us of

Satan’s attacks and plans.

4. If we are not alert and watchful, if we are ignorant of Satan’s schemes, he will take the bigger

portion.

We will study about the Watchmen’s Anointing more in our next month’s newsletter, but I do want to leave you with this final thought. We are children of God and know the Good Shepherd’s voice. He may allow you to sense that there is something not right. You may not know what it is, but go ahead and bind the power of darkness in Jesus’ name. You may sense that this darkness is concerning someone you know. If so, bind the devil off of that person by saying, “Satan, I bind you in Jesus’ name off of ____. You loose them.” “Now, Father, in Jesus’ name, I pray for ____. I ask you to protect them and deliver them from evil, and I praise You for it.” If you have your prayer language, pray until you find peace in your heart concerning them. (to be continued).
