A Crown of Thorns (May 2020)
Maybe you are tired of hearing about the coronavirus. Please allow me to share a few important things with you. There are many kinds of coronaviruses. Some cause mild symptoms but some can lead to death. The virus was discovered in 2003. That strand originated from China as this current virus also started in China. The coronaviruses are named for their appearance: under the microscope, the viruses look like they are covered with pointed structures that surround them like a corona, or crown. That is where it got its name.
I began to think about crowns in Scripture. We usually think of a crown as being an object of honor to that one that it is bestowed upon. For example, kings have been crowned. Even Queen Vashti and Queen Esther were crowned with a royal crown. How about the crown that was placed upon the King of Kings and Lord of Lords before His crucifixion? Jesus was crowned with a crown of thorns. How can that be? The demons that drove the people with evil were mocking the Son of God with the crown of thorns, a scarlet robe, and a reed in his right hand. They bowed before him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” The demons felt sure that they were winning the victory against God. What he did not know was that Jesus took the crown of thorns so that we, His children, could wear the crowns that He desired for us. The demons mocked then, but they were not mocking much when Jesus defeated them in hell and rose from the dead. He is now seated at the right hand of God in glory. He destroyed the works of the devil (1 John 3:8).
Jesus is no longer wearing a crown of thorns, but Scripture says in Revelation 19:12 concerning Jesus, His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.” We also read in Revelation 1:6, “And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” Look at 1 Peter 2:9. “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew for the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” When we made Jesus the Lord of our lives, our great God declares that we have been born into royalty. He has crowns for us.
What are those crowns? There is an everlasting crown (1 Corinthians 9:25). There is a victor’s crown (1 Timothy 2:5). There is a crown of righteousness (2 Timothy 4:8). There is a crown of life (James 1:12 and Revelation 2:10). There is a crown of glory (1 Peter 5:4). There is a crown of favor to those who are righteous. Jesus has already bore the crown of thorns. I suggest that He has already bore the crown of sickness, disease, mockery, pain… I am not saying that it won’t try to come our way. I am saying that part of our redemption is Jesus allowing the crown of thorns to be placed upon Him so that we, the children of God, don’t have to wear that crown. Amen! We should demand the devil to take His crown of the coronavirus and go to the dry places in Jesus’ name. Let us refuse satan’s crown of evil and death.
There is a song of warfare that I would like you to listen to. Please go to YouTube and type in “Pass Over” by Tafi. My friend sent this to me, and I have absolutely loved this. This is how we war against the works of satan and his demons. We have authority that our Lord has given to us. Jesus said, “I beheld satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10:18&19). Church, we must war. Where the blood of a lamb was placed at the top of the door and the sides of the Children of Israel’s homes, the death angel had to pass over. Brother and sister, the blood of the Lamb of God, Jesus, has been placed upon our hearts. Let us demand that the death angel take his virus, sickness, depression, etc. and pass over, in Jesus’ name. Amen! Let us make war against what satan is attempting to do against our nation and the nations at large. We must…Again, I say, we must war against the evil one, in Jesus’ name. His crown of thorns has already been worn by Jesus. “Thank you, Jesus for bearing our crown of thorns.”
