A Plumbline Coming to the Church (July 2020)

Recently, a Word was given to our church from the Lord. I knew that this was not just for my church but the church at large. The Lord said that he was placing a plumbline in our church. I took this most seriously. Did the people hear the Lord with their natural ears only? Did they hear with their hearts? I am concerned that it was their ears only. Did they even understand what the Lord was saying? When the Lord speaks, we need to attend to His Words and obey what He is saying to us. I began to study more about the plumbline. What was coming to my church and the church around the globe?

I found many passages referencing the plumbline, but I want to focus on Amos 7:7&8, “Thus he shewed me (the Lord showed Amos these things): and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand. And the Lord said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel (the church) : I will not again pass by them any more:” My grandfather had a plumbline that he used in construction. What is a plumbline?

A plumbline is a weight suspended from a string used as a vertical reference line to ensure a structure is centered. It applies the law of gravity to find right angles, to indicate the most direct route from top to bottom, and to keep things plumb. A plumb line doesn’t change or move with the whims of the carpenter. It remains true, and all work must line up with it or risk being crooked. The Lord is saying that the plumbline “determines if the wall was straight or if it needed to be destroyed”. Our God is saying that the church must line up with His standards; the Word. He is calling the church to holiness. This is simply lining up with what the Word says and being obedient to what he says to us. If we sin, we must confess it to Jesus and turn away or turn to what He says. Are our lives centered in Jesus? (See more teaching of this subject on Facebook or YouTube.)

The plumbline must come to the church. Hebrews 12:14 says, “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and hereby many be defiled;” We read in 1 Peter 4:17 NIV, “For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God?” Ephesians 5:26&27 says, “That he might sanctify and cleanse it (the church) with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.” The church must repent of sin and line up with the Word.

“Oh, Lord, may you please be merciful to us. May your people be quick to repent of sin. Amen!”
